Smithsonian Discovery Rooms: Top 10 Washington, DC For Kids

We’re continuing our countdown of the the Top 10 Attractions for Kids in Washington, DC, and our #9 pick is the Smithsonian Institution’s Discovery Rooms.

In our previous post, we spoke highly of Spark!Lab – a hands-on discovery room in the American History Museum where kids can play games, conduct science experiments, and try their hand at inventing. Spark!Lab is only one of many discovery rooms available across the Smithsonian campus. Smithsonian’s Discovery Programs bring the museums to life, allowing kids interact with museum staff around objects from the museum’s collections to hone their scientific inquiry skills.

Kids get a hands-on, behind-the scenes look at the Smithsonian museums as they explore a variety of games, puzzles, and scientific challenges in these family activity rooms. Hunt for animals in an African baobab tree at the National Museum of Natural History. Visit the Spark!Lab at the American History Museum to learn about inventors and their work. Join a design team at the Learning Lab in the National Air and Space Museum. Learning has never been so much fun!

Location: Various Smithsonian museums across Washington, DC.
